A prodigious movie in recent times of Kollywood. The depth of the characters at their best and the justification of roles by artisans are the beauty of the movie. Sarpatta Parambarai (Sarpatta Clan), a sports drama that was a second direct OTT release for the Actor Arya. The film swirls around a clash with two clans namely Idiyappa and Sarpatta Parambarai in North Chennai in the 1970s. It portraits politics and boxing culture in the locality.

Cast: Arya, Pasupathy, Kalaiyarasan, John Vijay, John Kokken, Dushara Vijayan
Music: Santhosh Narayanan
Direction: Pa. Ranjith

Kabilan (Arya) a Dalit laborer, spectator turned boxing monster in a short period by impressing the Rangan Vaathiyar (Pasupathy) who was searching out for boxers to safeguard his Sarpatta Parambarai. Kabilan’s will and determination to represent the clan and win by fighting against Vembuli (John Kokken) and to make his Vathiyar proud reflected at every stage. The movie circles in a touch of politics, a transformation of Kabilan into an alcoholic, finally his re-entry to the boxing field after setbacks.

Pa. Ranjith brought in the revolution of culture and showcases togetherness and human philosophy. Also stated, in boxing one who fights inside the ring must not fight outside. Many interesting characters like Dancing Rose (Shabeer Kallarakkal) with his footwork, English conversations by John Vijay (Kevin Daddy) are remarkable. Bold female characters Mariamma (Dushara Vijayan) wife of Kabilan and his mother Bakkiyam (Anupama Kumar) with a hotbed in turning the climax into a vintage track.

The fighting characters expose the hard work and efforts put forward by the professionals towards the movie for resembling world-class boxer's moves (Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, Naseem Hamed). Santhosh Narayanan’s music attaching the tension, and Selva RK’s editing with reaction shots made me anxious. Pa. Ranjith is in full control of his language. Kudos for bringing us such an amazing film.
